Eczema (medical name: atopic
dermatitis, or contact dermatitis) is a skin condition
characterised by itching, irritation, redness, dryness (or
blistering) of the skin. As its' medical term suggested,
dermatitis indicates it is an inflammation condition of the
skin.
Causes of Eczema: From a
Chinese medical practitioner's view, causes of eczema can be
diet, stress, lifestyle such as excessive alcohol intake, spicy
foods, or irritant chemicals such as washing detergent, certain
fragrances etc.
In babies, the causes of eczema is
often passed on from the mother, her lifestyle, diet and stress
during the pregnancy.
Conventional Medical Treatment:
Current conventional treatment offer symptomatic relief of the
condition. Cream treatment for eczema often contains chemical
substance of steroid or cortisone origin.
Perspectives from Acupuncture &
Chinese Medicine: Chinese medicine and acupuncture system
believe that there is a strong linkage between eczema and diet,
stress, poor lifestyle and alcohol. This is because people who
suffer from eczema often have associations to spicy foods,
alcohol intake and stressful lives. Once these issues are
addressed and corrected, eczema can be effectively treated.
